Bettie Camp
I went to Chaffey High School and Chaffey Jr. College, then attended Brigham Young University from which I graduated with a composite major in both music (vocal) and elementary education. I also did post-graduate work at BYU and San Diego State. I raised a family of three sons and three daughters but lost a son in 1988 to cancer and quadriplegia. Career-wise, I taught school, mostly sixth grade, in California, Alaska, and Utah for 30 years. I retired in 1995. I continued with my singing in various choirs over the years, including 15 years in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. That was a great experience and afforded me worldwide travel while performing.

Reinhard Haidenthaller
Hello, my name is Reinhard Haidenthaller. I was born and spent the first four years of my life in Wels, Austria, Europe. I came with my parents, three brothers, and a sister to Utah in 1962. My youngest brother (born 1963) and my youngest sister (born 1964) were born here in Utah.
We (our family, minus my youngest brother and sister) became citizens of the United States in 1967. It was a privilege for us to become citizens of the newly adopted country. I started school in the public school system in 1965 speaking German, but soon learned to speak English as a matter of necessity. Some may say that being new in a country where you didn't speak the language and know the customs must have been a hard adjustment to make, YES - it was, but I learned to do what was necessary to become a success.
I went to Granite Senior High School in South Salt Lake City, Utah, and then on a LDS mission to Bolivia, South America. I graduated from the University of Utah in 1990 with a BA degree in Mass Communications.
I married my sweetheart in 1982, and we have 5 wonderfully average children, the oldest being born 2 years after we married and the youngest being born 15 years after that. We purchased our home in West Jordan in 2000.
I chose to become a tutor because I enjoy seeing others become successful through hard work and effort. I get great satisfaction in seeing a person become the best they can be as they apply themselves to actively learning.
I have been with Thorup Tutoring a little over a year now and I am loving it here. I have had, and still have, some great students coming! I enjoy seeing them succeed as they work at improving their study skills and learning new things.
I am very patient and kind. I have a broad base of knowledge. I enjoy sharing that knowledge with my students who are eager to learn.
I enjoy reading, photography, boating, camping, hiking, and shooting in the desert.

Mandy Sorensen
My name is Mandy Sorensen. I am twenty-one years old and recently married. I was born and raised here in Salt Lake City, graduating with honors from Highland High School in 2008. While in high school, I served as President of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. I also took many Advanced Placement (AP) courses in a variety of subjects including United States History, World History, English Language, English Literature, and Calculus. These courses provided me valuable experience. I am currently attending the University of Utah majoring in Elementary Education. My strong academic standing has earned me the Honors at Entrance Scholarship, and membership in two Academic Honor Societies: Golden Key International, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. I absolutely love what I am studying. I have a passion for teaching and working with youth, and tutoring is no exception. While I enjoy tutoring in any subject, I feel that I am especially qualified in the areas of mathematics, writing, Spanish, ACT and AP test preparation, and organizational skills. Through my experiences in school, I have learned valuable strategies for success that I am now able to pass on when I tutor. I take a special interest in each of my students, and enjoy connecting with them on a personal level to help them succeed.
When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my husband and family. I love to do anything active, especially waterskiing. In high school I had the opportunity to play lacrosse for four years, and I still love to play whenever I get the chance! I am also interested in music, photography, interior design, and paleontology. During my sophomore year of college, I participated in a program at the University of Utah’s Museum of Natural History where I learned how to clean, care for, and prepare fossils. It was a great experience! I am a huge fan of warm weather, and love to travel anywhere with a beach. I also love reading, shopping, cooking, and making crafts. Most of all, I love to have fun! I believe learning should be a fun process of discovery. It is my goal to help my students enjoy that process as much as I do.

Jenny Steenblik
Hi! My name is Jenny Steenblik. I am 21 years old and was born and raised in Holladay, UT. I attended Evergreen Jr. High and Olympus High School. I am a tutor because … I absolutely LOVE working with children! I also feel very strongly about child development and education. I find tremendous joy in watching children learn and grow and am willing to do everything needed to assist them in this process. Each of my jobs throughout my life have included/been centered around children and teaching. I previously worked as a dance teacher for children ages 3-12. I worked for Utah Dance Artists during the school year and started my own basement studio for summers. I currently work as a nanny for a 3 yr old and 7yr old and a tutor for elementary age children. My plans for college are to major in English and minor in Public Speaking (communications.) I enjoy tutoring all subjects but feel that a few of my strengths are reading, writing, connecting with each student on a personal level, and finding creative ways to learn. It is important to me that my students not only succeed in school but learn to love it as well. I can’t wait to meet your kids!

Linda Stout
I was born, raised and educated in Salt Lake City, where I graduated in elementary education from the University of Utah. I married my husband 12 hours after he graduated from Medical School. I finished my senior year while he was interning at LDS Hospital. We moved to Palo Alto, California, where he worked on his residency at Stanford University.
We are the parents of four daughters, one of whom is Nancy Thorup of Thorup Tutoring. You might say that I am the 'goose who laid the golden egg.' I was widowed 13 years ago.
I began teaching school in the fall of 1979 and retired in June of 2000. While teaching 5th grade at Morningside Elementary I attended classes where I earned a "gifted endorsement" enabling me to teach language arts on a higher level. I have taught every grade except kindergarten and second grade, but 10 of my 20 years were spent teaching 5th grade, my favorite grade.
I adore my family, friends, hiking, snowshoeing, and eating out. Teaching is my passion but chocolate is a close second.

Jeanne Taft
After graduating from Davis High School, I began working at the Salt Lake Tribune and continued there for 7 years while I attended the University of Utah and pursued studies in anthropology and geology. While there I met my husband and married, leaving school with 1 year to go. Ten years later, I returned to the U to receive a B. S. in Elementary Education. I began teaching kindergarten in Granite District. Two years later I stepped up to first grade and taught there for 28 years. I had found my second love. During those 28 years, I also went to school and received a Gifted/Talented Certificate, a Spanish efficiency certificate and a M. E. in early childhood from Utah State University.
I am so pleased to be tutoring for Thorup Tutoring. I allows me to be back learning from, teaching, and working one on one with children again.
My husband and I have been married for 59 years, we are parents of 2 sons and their wives and grandparents to 6 grandchildren. I was a den mother for 8 years attending many scouting functions and Eagle ceremonies. Our family likes to water ski, snow ski, golf, take walks and attend many baseball, soccer games and ski races and concerts. Life has been challenging and happy.

Katie Thorup
Hi! My name is Katie Thorup. I just acquired my associate degree at Salt Lake Community College and I am headed to the University of Utah in the fall to study Special Education. I have a great passion for kids and helping them succeed in what they do. I am a gymnastics/tumbling coach at The Little Gym, as well as a rock climbing instructor for kids at Rockreation. I have been teaching on and off at Thorup Tutoring for about 2 and a half years. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a child’s confidence grow in front of your eyes from their hard work. All they need is for someone to show them the way.
In my spare time I am an avid rock climber and an outdoor enthusiast. I enjoy hiking all of the Utah Mountains and taking my cute little puppy Geppetto with me!

Abby West
My name is Abby West. I was born here in Salt Lake City and I’ve lived here ever since, and loved every minute of it. I am currently a student at the University of Utah studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, as well as a minor in mathematics. I have two years left before I graduate. I graduated from high school in 2008 in the top 2% of my class. During high school, I took many AP classes, including Calculus. I also took Chemistry and Physics, but math is definitely my specialty.
When I’m not in school or working, I’m either on my bike, hiking a mountain, or on some sort of camping trip. My husband and I love to explore and go on adventures together. Mountain biking, road biking, hiking, skiing, soccer, volleyball, slack lining, backpacking and camping are some of our favorite activities.
Even though I love to have fun and go on adventures, I’ve always believed that school should still be the number one priority. Succeeding early in school will only benefit you later on, and that’s why I want to help others through tutoring. School may not always seem fun at the time, but it definitely pays off later on if you put in the effort now.

Eric West
I have lived here in Salt Lake City for most of my life and was raised nearby. I attended Morningside Elementary, Churchill Jr. High, and Skyline High School and have graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Bachelors of Art in Spanish. I am currently completing my science prerequisite pre-medicine classes such as Organic Chemistry and Biology Classes at the University of Utah. I hope to be applying to medical school in the spring of 2013 and eventually practicing medicine in pediatrics. I thoroughly enjoy my school work and look forward to working with students in the sciences, particularly Chemistry, Biology, and Physics as well as some Math too. I served a full time mission in Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and studied Spanish at the U of U so I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy helping others learn how fun it can be to learn another language.
I am married to my lovely wife Abby West who is also a tutor with Thorup Tutoring and enjoys it greatly. We love spending time together with family or on one of our many different kinds of adventures in the outdoors.
I have found that when it comes to learning and education it pays to work and apply ourselves early, and that it is okay to ask questions and seek for help if help is needed.
I believe that success in school greatly enriches our lives and our possibilities of happiness for the future.
